One of the highlights of this year’s HullabaLOU Festival will no doubt be seven-time Grammy Award winner Gladys Knight. The “Empress of Soul” is one of the main performers on the Friday ticket which also includes Bon Jovi, Dierks Bentley and the Doobie Brothers.
Fans of the Oldies genre may recognize the superstar from her days with the group “Gladys Knight & the Pips” as they had hits with the songs “Every Beat of My Heart”, “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” and “Midnight Train to Georgia”. After her departure from the group in 1989, she has gone on to record more than 38 albums and many # 1 hits.
While last year marked the ending of a four-year, nightly run in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino, Knight has maintained her busy work schedule. Having crossed artistic mediums, her resume’ now also includes a new cooking book, jewelry line and appearances on various TV shows and broadway musicals. She is also involved with her own restaurant chain called Gladys Knight & Ron Winans’ Chicken & Waffles.
Gladys Knight is currently working on a new album with producer and American Idol judge Randy Jackson while touring the United States. Knight comes to Louisville after a performance in California and Washington. So if you’ve got a ticket to the HullabaLOU shows on Friday, chances are you’ve got a ticket to hear that “Midnight Train to Georgia” and experience one of R&B’s most successful and most celebrated careers.
