HulllabaLOU preview: Sara Evans [Music]

She's had four No. 1 Country hits, including Suds in the Bucket and a Real Fine Place to Start, enjoyed a handful of crossover Top 40 songs, earned platinum album sales, and even co-authored a novel and signed on to write three more. But you almost get a sense that Sara Evans, who will be performing on the main, HullabaLOU stage Saturday at Churchill Downs as part of the HullabaLOU music festival, is almost at a starting over place in her career.

Although her only significant studio output since her greatest hits collection released in 2007 was a four-song Christmas EP, I'll Be Home for Christmas, that came out late last year, she has been busy. Evans survived a public divorce, remarried, and moved to Alabama with her own version of the Brady Bunch comprised of her three children and four step-children.

A new single called Stronger is expected to be made available to country radio stations in September. And while the title may be indicative of how Evans feels after such life changing events, it ironically will be the only song on her forthcoming album that she didn't write or co-write. That certainly suggests that Evans will be having even more creative control over her work than ever before and that she definitely has something to say.

While not exactly a throwback country singer, she does have a traditional voice that's more Tammy Wynette than Shania Twain. Her staying power, acclaim, and commercial success for over a decade have proven that she's not just another pretty face. Evans has covered Bruce Hornsby and Edwin McCain and performed with Maroon 5. She's got a mass appeal, and her fans can expect her to offer up an energetic set of her hits come next Saturday July 24 on the HullabaLOU stage at 5:45.
