Visual Art

Renowned as a creative community, Louisville very publicly understands the impact of art.  The community’s warm support for the arts has become integral to the area’s economy and culture, and the artistic talent it has produced has been a welcomed “thank you”.

Coming to Louisville this July is a new collaborative effort by local artists, whose mission is to reinforce the community ties that are grown through art.  Impact Dance Project, directed by Louisville Ballet dancer Morgan Hulen, will make its first debut July 17th and 18th at the Eifler Theater at the Clifton Center on Frankfort Ave.

Morgan, a graduate of North Carolina School of the Arts, has enjoyed performing with the Louisville ballet for four seasons and has created a name for himself as a guest performer, teacher and choreographer around the country. Other choreographers featured in the performance will include Mikelle Bruzina, Pete Lay, and Ben Needham-Wood, all dancers with the Louisville Ballet, as well as Joy French, an award-winning choreographer from Boulder, Colorado.

The show is described as "a collision of color, rock music, and Louisville’s best dancers and choreographers". But Impact Dance Project claims to break the barriers of performance, by featuring interactive experiences for the audience.

Audience members will be able to download a podcast of the choreographers’ commentary on the company’s website before the show, and listen along as the show unfolds to discover the vision behind the pieces.  Also, the show will feature one dance piece that’s outcome will be decided by audience voting at intermission.

Tickets are $15, and are available on the website, at the door, and at the Louisville Ballet box office at 315 E. Main St., at Kinney Dancewear at 1864 Hurstbourne Pkwy, and at Margaret’s Inc. Consignment and Collectibles at 2700 Frankfort Ave.  Theater directions and information can be found online at http://www.impactdanceproject.com
