Louisville should definitely get behind a man who can rhyme “for real” and “bills” with “Dumervil.”
Slowly but surely, that man, JaLin Roze, is getting bigger and louder. Today, Roze is releasing his new song: “Gold.”
If you haven’t jumped on the JaLin Roze bandwagon yet, now is a good time to catch that ride straight to the top. This is Roze’s year. After his last album, Grand National Dreams, Roze become one of Louisville’s most recognizable and entertaining rappers; in some ways, Roze's success was behind the pioneering of the Louisville rap scene.
Some highlights of Roze’s year so far include: the introduction of a full live band to his performances, opening for Slick Rick at Headliner’s, appearing with The Pass at Zanzabar, curating Underground Sounds Record Store day block party, and dropping a new song last week called “That’s It.” On top of all this, Roze is also starting to enter the film industry; currently, Roze is in the middle of filming a video for “That’s It.”
But the best has yet to come for Roze. The wave of creativity and success continues tomorrow when he releases his next song “Gold.” It has been two years since Grand National Dreams was released to the public. Now, Louisville is awaiting the next full album release from this up and coming artist.
Roze can expect his biggest audience yet when he performs at this year’s Forecastle Festival. He made an appearance at last year’s Forecastle with The Pass to cover Prince, but this year he will have his own full set and slot in the schedule. Roze will be performing on Saturday, July 19, the same day as Jack White, Band of Horses, Slint, Jason Isbell, Spanish Gold and more.
At the past two Forecastles, Ben Sollee and The Pass, whom are both local acts, have created small Louisville superjams, onstage collaborations featuring multiple artists, for a song during their sets. Could this continue as a tradition for local artists at Forecastle? Roze is usually full of tricks and is very well connected with the Louisville music scene, so we will have to see what he has in store for the Forecastle crowd.
