Jazz fans take note, world-class pianist Harry Pickens will play a benefit concert at the Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m. along with other local artists. The concert is the first benefit held for the Louisville Creative Centre, a non-profit organization that seeks to provide arts education and advocacy both in the metro and larger Kentuckiana area.

Pickens is a native of Georgia who now calls Louisville home – a prominent jazz performer, an educator, and engaged humanitarian who has been the recipient of a 2009 Education Award from the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts and the 2005 Peacemaker Award from the Center for Conflict Resolution. He has worked with top names in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, while performing around the world and recording on the Blue Note label.

Also featured in the evening concert are violinist Howie Baker, trumpeter Ryan Nottingham, vocalist Lewis H. Washington Jr., and champion juggler Marc Daniels.

In addition to its current arts education programs, the Louisville Creative Centre is in the process of founding the Louisville Creative School, which will focus on arts training and classical language education. LCS is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2013 with a class of pre-k students, adding more grades each year until the school can accommodate students through the 12th grade. Find out more about the future plans at the website.

Tickets are available online: prices are $20.00 for the first ticket, $10.00 for the second ticket, and $15.00 for each additional ticket. Admission is general first come, and ticket sales are limited to 100 seats. (Please be sure to note any special needs instructions in the comment box at the time of ticket purchase.)
