For the first time ever, Louisvillians will have the opportunity to experience the Broadway musical “The Producers” right here in their hometown. CenterStage and Artistic Director John R. Leffert will be staging Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) July 23-Aug. 9. “The Producers” tells the story of two Broadway producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Unexpectedly the show turns out to be a success. The musical sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It was a big hit on Broadway, winning a record 12 Tony Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night. The success resulted in national tours and successful international productions. This performance is the first production of CenterStage’s stellar 2009-2010 season. As this is Leffert’s 10th season as CenterStage’s Artistic Director, he will be showcasing some of his favorite shows from the past 10 years, and will be bringing three great new shows to the stage. This season will feature “A Grand Night for Singing,” “La Cage aux Folles,” “Cabaret,” “The Last Five Years,” “Wizard of Oz” and the new Tony-nominated musical “Curtains.” Tickets for “The Producers” are on sale now and are available at the Jewish Community Center or by calling (502) 459-0660. Single tickets are $20 for the public and $16 for JCC members. Season tickets are also available now for the entire seven-show 2009-2010 CenterStage season. Patrons have the opportunity to buy all seven shows or choose a “pick 6” season ticket package which allows patrons to choose six of the seven shows.
