He's coming back! JD Mcpherson will be in concert at Headliners Music Hall this Sunday November 11th. His performance at WFPK's Waterfront Wednesday this summer was a lively event, conjuring all the signs of a great show: hoots, hollers, jumping, and dancing.
Mcpherson is touring in support of his debut album Signs and Signifiers. The album is produced by Mcpherson's bassist and musical partner Jimmy Sutton, who has recorded with numerous artists, including the likes of Koko Taylor, Willie "Big Eye" Smith, and Andrew Bird. The album's 50's rockabilly sound seems strangely brand new and flawlessly proves that rock and roll is still alive in 2012.
Though Mcpherson had always wanted a career in visual art (he was previously a middle school art teacher), he has decided playing rock and roll might suit him just as well. "...as much as I love artists like Joseph Beuys, I love David Bowie and Little Richard more," he says. And we cannot blame him for that.
The event on Sunday will begin at 7 pm with the fabulous record-spinning from Louisville favorite Woodrow on the Radio, and following will be singer/songwriter Sean Rowe. Tickets are available at the Headliners box office or online at etix.com.
