An open-casket funeral and a couple trying to prove they're still living are the subjects of two plays, Till and How Long Have I Been Dead Anyway?, which will premiere through Juneteenth Leagacy Theatre on Thursday.

Performances will take place on June 10, 11, and 12 will take place at 8 p.m. each night. Another performance will also happen on June 12 at 5 p.m. All performances of Till and How Long Have I Been Dead Anyway? will take place in the Victor Jory Theatre inside Actors Theatre, located at 316 W. Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Tickets for each performance depend on the day. Thursday show tickets are $10 per person while Friday and Saturday show tickets are $15 per person. All tickets may be purchased by going to the Actors Theatre website or by calling the ATL box office at 502-584-1205.

Till features the story of Marnie Till, whose teenage son Emmett was killed and tortured for whistling at a white woman. Marnie's decision to have an open-casket funeral led to an anti-lynching law to be passed by the US Congress.

Ifa Bayeza wrote Till, which will be performed by Mary Audrey Holt, as Marnie, and Pierre Priest, as Emmett. Sue Lawless directed the production.

Meanwhile, How Long Have I Been Dead Anyway? is a comedy showcasing an elderly couple trying to prove to the local social security office that they are alive.

Carridder Rita Jones, co-founder of Women Who Write, created How Long Have I Been Dead Anyway, which was directed by Jeff Rodgers. George Bailey and Juneteenth co-founder Kristi Papailler will perform the roles of the couple.

Each play is part of the 11th Annual Juneteenth Jamboree, which is put on by the Juneteenth Legacy Theatre. The company gets its name from the Juneteenth holiday, which celebrated the emancipation of the final people from slavery on June 19, 1865.
