“My work is a means of synthesizing the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of my existence. The pieces are an honest attempt to put together what is in my head and heart through the physical effort of creating a three-dimensional object. Through the potter’s wheel, I attain insights concerning form; through the painting, I attain insights about my self.” Patrick Dougherty was a social worker until taking a clay class at Northern Kentucky University. He pursued a BFA, then attended graduate school at Clemson, SC. He then taught for two years at Xavier in Cincinnati, followed by three years at NKU. Patrick left teaching in 1986 to pursue a career as a studio potter, first in Kentucky, then in New Orleans and South Carolina before returning to Kentucky.
