The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is now accepting applications for the next Artist-in-Residence Program, which will run from August 15th through December 15th, 2009. The program provides an emerging artist the opportunity to hone their craft within an active museum environment, which is part of the vibrant arts community in Louisville. Benefits include the use of studio space and tools, a $5,000 stipend for materials, free admission to adult workshops, and the opportunity to network with professional artists. Applications can be downloaded at www.kentuckyarts.org and must be submitted by July 15, 2009. For more information, contact Dane Waters at 502.589.0102 or [email protected].

“The Artist-in-Residency program has given me the opportunity to create a new body of work at an intensity level only found in a museum setting,” says Marie-Elena Ottman, current Artist in Residence at KMAC. “It offered me the opportunity to teach a workshop, meet and network with fellow artists and buyers, and most importantly to me, it gave me the confidence I needed to keep up with my art.”

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is a nonprofit organization founded in 1981. Its mission is to promote and support art and craft excellence in Kentucky. The Museum is supported in part by the Fund for the Arts and the Kentucky Arts Council, a state arts agency that supports the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft through the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes a great nation deserves great art. It is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or by appointment. Admission is $5 for adults, free for KMAC members, students and children under 12. For more information, please call 502.589.0102 or log on to www.KentuckyArts.org.
