For the 39th consecutive year, the Kentucky Music Weekend folk festival will occur in Louisville's Iroquois Amphitheater and the tree-lined area nearby. This event will take place from Friday, July 25 until Sunday July 27. As it was voted as Kentucky's "Premier Folk Festival," some of the finest folk musicians and crafters will gather at the Kentucky Music Weekend, and it is one of the top folk festivals in the country.
There is a $10 suggested donation for adults at the concerts on Friday and Saturday night. Children 12 and under are free. The funds go to the performers and to other event expenses. All daytime events are free to the public. These include: the Arts & Crafts at Iroquois craft fair, a songwriter workshop, and The Louisville Dulcimer Society JAM tent. Food vendors will also be available. Many musicians, such as Keltricity and Small Potatoes, will be playing during the daytime events.
The Kentucky Music Weekend will also host the Kentucky State Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Championship contests, which will take place during the Saturday daytime events. Registration is $10 with more information here. The contests will be held from about noon until 2:00 PM. The first place winners will receive a trophy, either a McSpadden Mountain Dulcimer or Jake’s Cabin Hammered Dulcimer, and tickets to the Walnut Valley national contests in Winfield, Kansas.
The radio show Kentucky Homefront and host John Gage will record the evening concerts for future radio programs on regional National Public Radio stations. Kentucky Homefront Performances is a partner and sponsor of the Kentucky Music Weekend.
Other organizations and individuals that make this event possible are: Metro Councilman Dan Johnson; The Louisville Dulcimer Society; Kentucky Music Week, Inc. ; Iroquois Amphitheater and Metro Parks; and a large group of tireless volunteers. McSpadden Mountain Dulcimers and Jake’s Cabin Hammered Dulcimers are providing instruments to grand prize winners.
Event schedules and information on the performers can be found on the Kentucky Music Weekend's webpage.
