For the 33rd consecutive year, Kentucky Music Weekend will bring the finest folk musicians and Kentucky traditions to the Iroquois Amphitheater on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25.  Voted into law as Kentucky’s “Premier Folk Festival” in 2000, Kentucky Music Weekend will again fill the Amphitheater with the sounds of the Bluegrass State’s history through the music of the banjo, fiddle, guitar, dulcimer, and vocal harmony.

This year the festival will include concerts, workshops, the dulcimer and hammered dulcimer championship contests, regional dulcimer club performances, and a jam session.

“We’re very pleased to be able to showcase the best musical talent in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and excited to showcase the premier outdoor venue in the Louisville area, the Iroquois Amphitheater,” Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz said. “It’s an honor to host Kentucky Music Weekend.” Although no formal tickets will be sold, a “suggested donation” of $10 will be collected at the main gate for the Friday and Saturday evening performances. If someone is unable to pay, they can still be part of the event. The events on Saturday afternoon are free. Non-perishable food items also will be collected for Dare To Care Food Bank near the entrance gate. For the seventh year KMW will host the Kentucky State Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Championship contests. This event will be held on Saturday beginning at noon, with the first place winners receiving a new dulcimer or hammered dulcimer, trophy, plus entry fees to the Walnut Valley National Contests inWinfield, Kansas. Sponsors include Metro Councilman Dan Johnson, the Louisville Dulcimer Society, Kentucky Music Week, Inc., The Dulcimer Shoppe, McSpadden Dulcimers and Rick Thum Hammered Dulcimers. Artist fees come from donations received during the event.
