Last fall, I became a KidStuffer. I had heard about KidStuff Sale through Facebook, word of mouth, and advertising postcards laying around in various places that I frequented. But I was always working fulltime and just never delved into it much deeper than the fleeting thought that I should check that out sometime.
Well I must say I wasted a lot of time during my “sometime.” Eight years of my daughter’s growth spurts and various princess obsessions were spent paying full price for so many items I could have found at this consignment sale! During those eight years I could have stocked up mightily and saved a lot of money. Thankfully, I discovered that savings and the fulfillment of consigning as well, and I am now a full-fledged KidStuff shopper and consignor.
The KidStuff Sale is a huge one around Louisville. Every fall and spring they host a huge consignment sale in East Louisville, Southern Indiana, and Oldham County. They have over 3000 fans on Facebook and close to 150 followers on Twitter. It is a business which has grown from the creator’s garage to over 20,000 square feet of space at the East Louisville site alone. The mastermind behind KidStuff is Suzette Decker. I met her last fall when I first signed on to sell my gently used children’s items and couldn’t have had a better first time experience. She is dedicated and faithful to her sellers, but equally as committed to the buyers who use the KidStuff sale as the place to stock up for their families clothing and entertaining needs for the season or even a whole year.
KidStuff also partners with agencies such as Kosair Charities to donate portions of the sales and an enormous amount of children’s items. This year they are also hosting a drop-off point for the BraPalooza drive, in which you can donate your gently used nursing bras and tanks which will be given to women who cannot afford them.
In my own words to Suzette at the end of the fall sale in 2012, “I've lived in Louisville a long time, and have heard of the KidStuff sales in the past. I don't know what it was that drew me in further this time, but I went ahead and signed up and was hooked from the get-go! I think it may have been the exposure on Facebook plus the connection and updates I would see through Louisville Family Fun and those great contests!!!
...I had the best experience!!! First time seller, first time buyer, first time getting a good value on both ends! From each and every email response, all the way down to "can I put Christmas stuff in the Home Decor Sale?" and "where can I find cheap hangers?!" You made it so personal and I loved getting to meet you in person at the sale! It was fun talking with other moms who were volunteering and I was amazed at the work that you and the other KidStuff staff put in. You run a great sale, and let me just say I am sold! I don't think I'll ever have another yard sale again.
...I look forward to using my sale money to save for future things we need! And my kids will enjoy the treasures I found while shopping.”
I was that impressed, and continue to be this year. The East Louisville Spring 2013 sale starts today, Thursday, March 21 at 10am-8pm. The sale continues through Friday, March 22 from 10am-8pm, Saturday, March 23 from 10am-5pm, and Sunday, March 24 from 12pm-5pm. Saturday you can get a 25% discount and Sunday you’ll receive a 50% discount on all items. The sale is held at the Ramada Inn Conference Center at 9700 Bluegrass Parkway. The best way to reach the sale staff throughout the sale is through their Facebook page, which is constantly updated.
