Churchill Downs will host Ladies Day at the Races on Friday, September 27. The seventh annual event is presented by Calospa with proceeds benefiting Churchill Downs's Backside Learning Center. The learning center is a non-profit organization located on the Churchill Downs backside that provides educational and life skills resources to backside workers and their families.
Ladies Day at the Races has become a fundraising event that not only helps the learning center, but provides attendees handicapping advice, education about horse racing, a fashion show, silent and live auctions, and a catered lunch. Items up for auction include vacation getaways, priceless experiences, and the halters of Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice, Travers Stakes winner Will Take Charge, Champion Female Sprinter Groupie Doll, and Haskell winner Verrazano.
The event will be hosted by veteran jockey and horse racing television analyst Donna Barton Brothers and one of the Keeneland auctioneers (Keeneland's September yearling sale is just wrapping up).
"Ladies Day at the Races is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Backside Learning Center, which is an educational and resource center that serves hundreds of workers on the backside of the track at Churchill Downs," said Sherry Stanley, Executive Director of the Backside Learning Center. "This event is a fun way to spend the day while supporting the equine workers who dedicate their lives to the Thoroughbred industry."
