Last chance to see Christmas model train display at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens
Print this page

What is it with trains and Christmastime? Perhaps etched in our collective memory by the lyrics of Christmas carols of old, or more recently by the blockbuster holiday film, The Polar Express, trains are a symbol of Christmas anticipation and a dream-come-true gift for under the tree.

If you haven't yet been to the Yew Dell Botanical Gardens to see the Yew Dell Express, this weekend is your last chance. This model train and snow village exhibit will delight the train enthusiast on your list on Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16 from noon to 4:00 pm. There's nothing like a model train display to excite boys and girls alike; watching the miniature train make its way through woodland scenes and dart in and out of the tiny town will hold your child's attention for far longer than a Nick Jr. cartoon. And if you're lucky enough to have grandparents in the area, this would be the perfect holiday outing to enjoy together.

Master model builder Bob Irmscher and other talented train enthusiasts helped create this Christmassy model train display. Viewing the Yew Dell Express is included with Yew Dell admission ($7 for adults, $5 for 55+, children under 12 are free). Members of Yew Dell Botanical Gardens enjoy free admission.

Yew Dell is located 15 minutes from downtown Louisville at 6220 Old LaGrange Road in Crestwood. For more information, visit www.yewdellgardens.org or call 241-4788.

About Anna Frye

After living in Chicago, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Colorado, my husband and I made our (hopefully? probably?) final move back to Louisville, where I was born and raised. Ahhh...it's nice to be home. Now I'm busy making sure my three little ones learn to love the quirks and traditions of their new hometown: Kentucky Derby Festival, no school on Oaks Day, grits and hot browns (not necessarily together), monograms, parks, festivals, and even our seasonal allergies.
