There’s a great feeling in the Spring air, as Louisville lines up in support our hometown Cardinals, who will be taking the court tonight against Manhattan, in pursuit of a second back-to-back National Championship banner to hang up at KFC Yum! Center.  As you're scribbling and scratching red ink all over your brackets, know that there is one local business who is merging their support for the Cardinals with an indelible support for the community as a whole.

Starting April 7th, for every UofL win in the tournament, The Laughing Derby in The Highlands will be donating $1 from every ticket sold for two weeks starting April 7th to FOCUS Basketball. The potential gross donation is over $20,000.

FOCUS is a non-profit organization which aims to provide local kids with positive role models and personal development skills. They utilize a very specific four tiered approach that focuses on academics, athletics, character, and community.

"We're already rooting for U of L to win the whole damn thing," said owner Steve Hofstetter. "This lets us put our money where our very loud mouths are."

So Cards fans, you have another reason to cheer loud and proud for the boys in red as they chase another National Championship Title.  And if you’re a Cats fan, now you actually have a reason to root for the Cards, too (unless they’re playing you in the Sweet 16, of course).

About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
