Louisvillians are saddened and shocked this morning by the untimely passing of Scotty the African elephant.  The Louisville Zoo announced last night that Scotty had been euthanized yesterday after a painful illness.

The staff at the zoo is grieving over the loss of one of their most cherished animals. "This is a very sad day for us. We are heartbroken," said Louisville Zoo Director John Walczak. "Scotty will always remain in our hearts. He was a special elephant and we will greatly miss him."

Please leave your thoughts and remembrances here about Scotty to honor his memory. We will send these comments to the staff at the zoo to help them through this painful time.

Scotty was the highlight of my son's zoo visits. When Scotty's birthday was celebrated, my son was so excited. We will miss you Scotty!! You touched our Louisvillian hearts.

I agree. My little girl and

I agree. My little girl and I enjoyed seeing Scotty when we go to the Zoo. We're going to miss him tons.

So sad...

What a cute picture! It's so sad what happened to Scotty. I feel bad for all of the fans of the zoo, especially the kids who loved Scotty so much.
