Veteran country music singer Ronnie Milsap visits the Kentucky State Fair this week as part of the free concert series connected to the Kentucky State Fair.  Milsap, known for hits such as “Smokey Mountain Rain” and “Any Day Now,” is widely recognized as country music’s first well-known blind artists, losing his eye site due to a congenital disorder as a small child.  Inspired mostly by artists such as Ray Charles, Little Richard and Elvis Presley, Milsap became interested in music during his early childhood and went on to score six Grammy Awards for his multiple number one hits.

Milsap is joined by veteran artist and Grand Ole Opry member BJ Thomas.  Thomas achieved mainstream success with the hits “Hooked on a Feeling” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” which won an Academy Award for best song in 1970 thanks to the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.  Thomas is also credited for his recording with Jennifer Warnes, “As Long As We Got Each Other,” which became the theme to the hit television show Growing Pains.  Thomas has not only appeared on pop charts throughout the years but also on country and christian music charts as well.

The Ronnie Milsap/BJ Thomas concert is Tuesday, August 21st and is free with paid admission to the Kentucky State Fair.  The show takes place at Cardinal Stadium in the Kentucky Exposition Center.  Gates open at 6:30 p.m. with the show at 8 p.m.
