    25 Unsolved Murders

    First, the good news:  Louisville’s murder rate seems to be declining.  Only 51 people were murdered in Derby City this year, compared to 54 last year, 65 in 2009, and 71 in 2008.

    25 Unsolved Murders_0.gifThe bad news, on the other hand, appears to be that the rate at which the LMPD is solving these murders is declining.  This year, there remain 25 unsolved murders, compared to 21 last year, 23 in 2009, and 20 in 2008.  In percentages (we do the math, so you don’t have to), this means that 49% of this year’s murders remained unsolved.  This is an increase over last year’s unsolved rate of 39%, 2009’s rate of 35%, and 2008’s rate of 28%.
