Several Kentuckiana riding stables are offering horse camps. There are western or English horse camps offering an array of horse related activities.
Louisville Area Horse Camps
Rodden Equine Services - Summer camp is for riders ages 7-17. In camp riders will learn to saddle, bridle, mount, and walk, trot, or walk, trot, canter safely. More advanced riders will tackle trail obstacles and jumps! There is lots of in saddle time as well as crafts and games.Camps run the 2nd week in June (Summer Camp 1) and 1st week in August (Summer Camp 2) and starts at 9 am and finishes at 1 pm. Zubrod Stables - Zubrod Stables offers two summer day camps. They are June 18-20 and July 30-August 1. They are for all ages and experience levels - These are for kids from age 3 up. Campers will learn all the basics of horse care, grooming, and handling the horse, tacking up, etc. and will have daily horseback riding lessons.The camps are from 10am-4pm (before or after care is available for an additional charge).For more information contact Zubrod Stables at 502.228.3377, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Stone Place Stables - Spring Break Camp: April 10-12, 9 AM-3 PM, cost $250, and includes three classes in the Stone Place Hunter show on April 14th. Summer Camps: June 11-15, 25-29. July 9-13, *23-27, 30-August 3, 9 am-3 pm. Cost for camps is $350. *July 23-27 is eventing camp, for slightly more advanced students. Louisville Equestrian Center - Most of their Summer Camps are five days a week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm unless otherwise specified and will cost $385. There are some half day camps. Summer Day Camps are scheduled based on age and riding experience of the Campers. There is an extensive list of different horse camp opportunities running from June to August that include Home School Camp Experience, Mommy and Me Camp, Horse Lovers Camp, and much more. YMCA Camp Piomingo - Camp Piomingo is overnight summer resident camp that offers one or two week stays for kids ages 6-16 years of age. The camp is located inside the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area near Fort Knox. Summer camp starts June 10th and runs through August 3rd with many options available. Indiana Horse Farms and Camps
Hunters Brook Farm - Offering two camps for ages 7-12 years of age on June 11-15 and July 9-13. The cost is $165. In addition there are two camps for 3-6 years of age on June 25-27 and July 16-18. Cedar Ridge Farm - Normally Cedar Ridge Farm does do a weekend summer horse camp but instead this year they will be doing a summer session of riding lessons that will run the beginning of June through the end of July and will offer both English and western lessons that include how to properly groom, tack/untack the horse, safety rules, handling horse safely from the ground, mounted lessons, as well as horse management skills. It is all practical horse knowledge skills that help prepare many students for horse ownership. For more information go to the farm’s website here.
