The Louisville Bach Society kicks off season Sunday [Music]

If you look up former Skid Row lead singer Sebastian Bach on Wikipedia, the text that appears at the very top of the entry reads Not to be confused with Johann Sebastian Bach.

So if you can't tell 18 and Life from Brandenburg Concerto you may want to stop reading now. For everyone else, The Louisville Bach Society opens its 2010-2011 season with a concert at 3:00 P.M. Sunday August 22, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 639 South Shelby. Tickets are $5 for this family-friendly show; the event is free for Bach Society season subscribers.

Featuring brief and familiar works, even for the classical novice, the program includes choruses from the Mozart and Brahms Requiems, Haydn's Creation, and short pieces from traditional contemporary composers. Margaret Dickinson will be the featured organist, and Dr. John Hale will narrate the performance.

Assistant Director Mark Walker, who will succeed Melvin Dickinson as Music Director following this season, will conduct. Dickinson - who with his wife Margaret founded the Bach Society in 1964 - will remain affiliated with the group as Advisor and Conductor Emeritus.

Louisville Bach Society season tickets are still available by calling 585-BACH.
