Cincinnati Reds Chief Operating Officer Phil Castellini today announced that longtime Louisville Bats broadcaster Jim Kelch has joined the club's broadcast teams for the 2010 season.Kelch has been the play-by-play voice for the Louisville Baseball Club since 1989 and the last two seasons filled in on Reds on Radio and Reds TV broadcasts. He will primarily work radio, but also will fill in for selected televised games.Bats President Gary Ulmer said, “We are absolutely thrilled for Jim. We have believed for quite some time that Jim has the talent and experience needed to work in Major League Baseball and appreciate the Cincinnati Reds for giving him this fine opportunity. We also thank Jim for his many years of service with the Louisville Bats and wish him well in Cincinnati.”Kelch has done television play-by-play for the NCAA Division II men's national semifinals in basketball, television work for the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University, and since 1995 has been the radio voice of University of Louisville women's basketball. A graduate of Bradley University, he called the NCAA Women's National Championship Game in 2009.“I'm just thrilled that the Reds deem me worthy of joining their radio team in 2010. The last two years working with them on a fill-in basis has been great,” said Kelch. “Getting even more involved this year and working for the Reds full-time is the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition to work in Major League Baseball. The 21 seasons I've spent with Louisville have been great years and I look forward to what the future holds.”Matt Andrews takes over as Louisville’s Director of Broadcasting after joining the Bats in 2003 as Kelch’s radio partner. He arrived at the Bats after a two-year stint with the Chillicothe Paints in the Independent Frontier League. Andrews is in his second season serving as a basketball radio voice for Morehead State and also called Eagles football games for the first time in 2009. A graduate of The Ohio State University, Andrews called numerous Buckeye athletic events for OSU student radio, including Ohio State’s National Championship in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. “We are pleased to announce that Matt Andrews has been promoted to Director of Broadcasting and will be our lead radio announcer,” said Ulmer. “Matt is very talented and is well prepared to assume additional responsibilities within our organization.” Andrews said, “Today is a dream come true for Jim and me. It is an honor to serve the Louisville Bats in a lead radio role and I thank them for this opportunity. I look forward to continuing with the excellent tradition of Bats Baseball on the radio.”The Bats open the 2010 season at home on April 14 against the Indianapolis Indians.
