Louisville Grows, a local organization focused on promoting a just and sustainable community through urban agriculture, urban forestry and environmental education, will host a Seeds and Starts Sale and Farmer’s Market this Saturday, June 21, at the People’s Garden, 409 Northwestern Parkway.
The Farmer’s Market starts at 10:00 a.m. with seeds, plants, produce and baked goods on offer.
At 11:00 a.m., Sustainable Agriculture of Louisville is presenting a free garden workshop.
At 11:30 a.m., Foxhollow Farm will be serving up burgers and hot dogs.
Tyrone Cotton plays from noon to 1:30 p.m.
From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Good Garbage: A Center for Creative Reuse presents a Make and Take Rain Barrel Workshop ($15)
While you are there, learn more about the People’s Garden, which has been in operation since 2011. It’s produced over 3,000 pounds of produce to be distributed locally since 2012, according to Louisville Grows, and higher yields are expected for 2014. You can also find out more about an urban farming project that Louisville Grows is working on, in conjunction with Louisville Metro Health and Wellness and the Mayor’s SummerWorks program. The young people learning about urban growing efforts and effectively communicating with and educating their communities will be at Saturday’s Market.
