Foodies tend to have a special place in their hearts for Food Network - the recipes, the reality cooking shows, the travel cuisine from around the world - it’s all there. One of the popular shows on the network right now is Cutthroat Kitchen, where four competitors are given a budget to either bid on items or conditions to aid them or sabotage their opponents. This Sunday, August third, Louisville’s very own Vegan Temptress Kristina J. Addington will be competing, and is the first vegan chef to do so.
Addington attended Sullivan University, where she focused on culinary classes, and now works as a private chef in the Louisville area. She also wholesales baked goods and the like, and wants to bring the vegan message to a wider audience. “My goal is to show people that we can still enjoy those nostalgic dishes we grew up eating around our family’s table, while using ingredients that are more sustainable and easier on the environment, that don’t support the animal industry that inflicts so much cruelty, and are good for our body, mind, and soul. Educating people on the benefits of a plant-based diet while showing them how delicious the food can be is what drives me,” she says.
If you’re interested in watching a Louisville native compete at the national level, tune in to Food Network this Sunday at 10 p.m. Alternatively, Mellow Mushroom in St Matthews is hosting a viewing party starting at 9 p.m. that night, with twenty percent off all vegan items. Come on out, say hi to a new local celebrity, and find out just how good vegan food can be.
Louisville wishes Kristina the best of luck, and we hope to see her bring home a win for such an amazing food community as ours!
