"Arena officials are confident that enough parking spaces exist downtown to handle game-day traffic when the KFC Yum! Center opens in October — their plan identifies more than 12,000 spaces in garages and lots within a 10-minute walk. But many of those spots are reserved for premium seat holders — and for the overall plan to work, traffic experts are counting on thousands of downtown office workers and others to leave their parking spots by the time basketball fans start arriving." "The weather was nearly ideal, but attendance at the 11-day Kentucky State Fair that ended Sunday was probably off fractionally from a year ago, fair officials said Monday. Although numbers probably won't be available for several days, paid admissions aren't expected to surpass the 621,795 people who attended the 2009 fair, said Edward Browne, director of public relations and media for the Kentucky State Fair Board." "Archaeologists recently uncovered Louisville’s oldest pottery business near the corner of Jackson and Main Streets where the old D & W Silks building was demolished for a proposed office tower. Parking Downtown

I'm not sure if the estimate of needed parking places downtown is sufficient however I am sure of 1 thing. If you've ever been parked on, say the 6th floor and there is an accident or disabled car at the entrance or any lower level...you'll be wishing intently that you were on Ring Road.

State Fair Attendance

I'm no expert but I'd say the two things they discounted are the EXACT things that kept people away from the Fair. $8 Parking seems absurd to me, $6 was bad enough. A person going alone would pay $14 to go to the Fair. And from what I've read in the paper, those having concert tickets had to pay a Fair admission to get in...seems like that could be built into the concert ticket price if nothing else...don't they know there is a major recession going on? I would also think that lots of folks took advantage of Kentucky Kingdom to just sit and let their children ride the rides which, at least in my mind, were safer rides than those assembled and re-assembled a hundred times a year. Just my opinion. Since the Fair Board paid EXPERTS I'm sure they are correct.

State Fair

I agree. The prices just to get into the fair are not reasonable for the people of Kentucky. If you want better attendance you need to think about how much you are going to charge. Come on $8 just to park after you pay $8 to get in. It doesn't take a genious to realize why the attendance wasn't great.
