Occupy Louisville
  • "Occupy Louisville said their act of civil disobedience will go on indefinitely until they get legislation to eliminate corporate influence on the federal government. Nearly 100 protesters gathered in the downtown business district Tuesday because they're not pleased with the federal government. Occupy Louisville isn't targeting any specific businesses, but their mission is in line with Occupy Wall Street's. 'We share their vision. You can't have a democracy that's compromised by the influence corporations having complete control over your government,' said Curtis Morrison." [WLKY]
  • "The CEO of the Louisville Orchestra says the audience is likely turning away as the labor impasse continues. The management and musicians have been at odds for more than a year over how big the orchestra should be. It’s not a new fight, and CEO Robert Birman says it’s one the community is getting tired of. 'Each time that we confront this labor impasse and the infighting, there is a percentage of the audience that turns their backs because it becomes excruciatingly painful and tiresome to the community,” he says.
Three months of concerts have been canceled, and a performance scheduled for December will likely be called off this week.'" [WFPL]

I hope...

I hope that the occupations in cities across the nation like Louisville carry as much steam as the Wall Street protest. There's a certain critical mass that I think is necessary for this occupation to continue, and while I'm convinced we've gotten there on Wall Street, I'm not so sure about Louisville et al.

thanks for covering occupy louisville

Clarification on the number of people there, though. 100 is probably a good average. At the peak, about 2 pm on Day 1, we had 250. And the low figure was the troopers who are spending the night, a 2nd night right now, on the Belvedere before returning to Aegon Park in the morning. Those kids are COMMITTED to fixing this country.

I want to thank LMPD & Mayor Fischer for refraining from the kind of deplorable police violence we are seeing in New York.

If your readers want to help out, but can't spend too much time down there, just drop off some pizzas! It will be appreciated!
