  • "In an interview with ABC News, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Bowling Green, said Republicans 'aren’t maybe brave enough' to tackle the deficit. When asked if he will someday run for President, Paul noted that he’s only been in Washington a month. 'Come back and ask me in a few months … We’ll see,' he said. Later, he acknowledged that he would run for president if nominated." [Bluegrass Politics]
  • "In Egypt, word has been spreading that anti-government protesters have been eating food from KFC. But as the Los Angeles Times reports, the rumors may be an attempt to discredit the demonstrators. 'A meal at KFC can cost what locals make in an entire day or even a week, making it inaccessible to many Egyptians. And KFC became a proxy for anger about perceived Western interference,' writes Raja Abdulrahim. Abdulrahim’s story follows Rehab Salah, who went to Tahrir Square to find out the truth about the KFC rumors she had heard. If the protesters were indeed eating the expensive food (colloquially called Kentucky meals), it could cast doubt on their motivations." [WFPL]
  • "A federal judge turned away a bid to postpone the sentencing for the woman convicted of attempting to extort Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino. U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson on Monday said Karen Cunagin Sypher's attorneys have had enough time to prepare for the Feb. 18 hearing in federal court in Louisville. Simpson also wrote that Sypher will not get a hearing on a pending motion for a new trial." [Lexington Herald-Leader]
