  • "Agriculture Commissioner Jamie Comer fired the girlfriend of his predecessor from her $60,000-a-year job during his first work day after being sworn in Monday, a state holiday. Stephanie Sandmann, who former Commissioner Richie Farmer hired as a special assistant a week before the November election, was told she was being let go after arriving for work at the Agriculture Department Tuesday, according to Holly VonLuehrte, Comer’s general counsel. VonLuehrte said that Sandmann, who was a non-merit political appointee, was not given a reason for her termination. VonLuehrte noted that political appointees can be fired without cause." • "Dan Woodside parked on Muhammad Ali Boulevard near Fourth Street Live and pulled out not a shiny piece of change to feed the meter. He didn’t have to — this meter takes plastic. Woodside slid a credit card into one of three gray boxes curbside and went about his business. The new hi-tech, multi-space meters he used were turned on recently to kick off a pilot program to test how motorists take to them before the Parking Authority of River City moves to purchase and install them in spots throughout Louisville. They allow motorists to pay with paper cash, credit cards, SmartCard or the standard coin, said Gerald Howell, on-street administrator for PARC." [Courier-Journal]
