Louisville news: Unemployment down, taxes up edition [News]

  • "In the month of July, Kentucky’s unemployment rate dropped from an awful 9.6 percent to a slightly less awful 9.5 percent. High as it is, this marked the fifth straight month that the unemployment rate dropped — almost a full percent since the start of the year — and the 18th straight month that the number of employed persons rose.   • "The Jefferson County Board of Education voted Monday night to approve a slight increase in its property tax rate for the 2011-12 fiscal year. The board voted unanimously to raise the tax rate to 67.7 cents per $100 assessed value for real estate and personal property from 67.6 cents." [Courier-Journal]
  • "The North Oldham Little League team’s quest for a World Series title has ended with an extra-inning defeat.
