The Louisville Orchestra is bringing new artists into the orchestral arena.  On Saturday, February 21 at 8pm, Seattle songstress Brandi Carlile and Norwegian singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche join the Louisville Orchestra for the second BB&T Strings Attached concert at Kentucky Center’s Whitney Hall.  Tickets start at $25 and are available by calling 502.584.7777 or by visiting LouisvilleOrchestra.org.

Ben Folds was the first performer in the Orchestra’s new indie series which was a huge success; the October concert was sold out. Jeffery Lee Pucket of the Courier-Journal said “The opening set by (Bob) Bernhardt and the orchestra went over well; they even got a standing ovation.”  Cameron Finnis wrote for Backseat Sandbar, “the orchestral set was an interesting variety of music and helped build the atmosphere for the main show.”

The second concert of this series should prove equally as engaging.  Louisville Orchestra’s Chief Executive Officer, Bradley Broecker says, “We are confident these two new artists will draw a great crowd.  The BB&T Strings Attached series is not just a great way to introduce new audiences to classical music; it is also a significant revenue source for the orchestra even with the competitive ticket prices.”

Lerche’s 2004 album Two Way Monologue placed him firmly in the poppy, folk-rock core while his most recent releases are influenced more by jazz undertones. With his group, The Faces Down Quartet, he easily straddles the jazz/pop genre. His recent collaborations with Regina Spekter and A Fine Frenzy can be heard on the Dan In Real Life soundtrack.

Carlile, a chamber-pop songstress, comes to Louisville fresh from the Seattle Symphony – her first collaboration with an orchestra. She has made fans of and joined both James Taylor and Dave Matthews on stage and recently enjoyed a sold-out tour through Europe. Songs from her new album, The Story, can be heard on the popular ABC show Grey’s Anatomy.

Tickets range from $25 - $55 and are available by calling 502.584.7777 or by visiting LouisvilleOrcehstra.org.
