For the last couple of weeks various Kentucky basketball players have made their way to Mall St. Matthews’ Cardboard Heroes for signings. Today, the sports shop welcomes Louisville stars, Kyle Kuric and Chris Smith. The event is set to begin at 2 and conclude at 4.
Kuric, a native of Evansville, Indiana, made a name for himself as a strong shooter and defender while with the Cards. His most notable game in this fans’ opinion was the Cards’ final game at Freedom Hall against the then number one in the nation, Syracuse. Led by the then sophomore Kuric, the Cards upset the Orange- the guard/forward’s personal stats included 22 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and four dunks. Following this standout performance Kuric became one of the best shooters on the team and was a major factor in the Cards reaching the final four last year.
Meanwhile, New Jersey native, Chris Smith has been a quality shooter. Often leading the team in offensive and defensive play in pure tenacity and ability, Smith actually began his college career as a walk on at Manhattan College before Pitino saw his potential. Today, Smith’s brother, J.R. is currently a pro playing with the Denver Nuggets.
There’s been a lot of conjecture about these two Cardinal standouts and the likelihood of seeing them in the pros in the upcoming years well I’m not going to offer my conjecture on this because quite frankly nobody cares. What’s undeniable though is that these two were integral parts in any of the success that the Cards have had in the last couple years.
