Eurydice

Love in the real world versus love in the underworld.  Eurydice must choose in the namesake Alley Theater production, which opens on Thursday.

Eurydice performances will go on Jan. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  All shows will take place at Alley Theater, located in The Pointe at 1205 E. Washington Street in the Butchertown section of Louisville.

Tickets in advance for each show are $18 for adults and $16 for students, senior citizens, and military members.  Add two dollars for each day of show ticket.  All tickets can be purchased at the box office or by going to the Alley Theater website.

Eurydice is a re-imagined tale based on the myth of Orpheus, a musician who falls in love with the title character.  She dies, and Orpheus goes into the underworld to bring her back.  The tale is told from Eurydice's perspective as she decides whether to return to the world above or stay in the underworld with her loving father.

Sarah Ruhl created the production, and Kathi E.B. Ellis directed Eurydice.  Hallie Dizdarevic stars as Eurydice, Scott Davis is Eurydice's father, Joel Mingo is Orpheus, Michael Mayes is Lord of the Underworld, and Clay Marshall, Ben Unwin, and Scott Goodman are Stones (essentially, a Greek Chorus.)

More information on the show can be found at the Alley Theater website.
