Local historians Vic Megenity and Pam Peters will share an update on the fascinating details they have uncovered about Lucy Higgs Nichols. Lucy went from being a slave in Bolivar, Tennessee to drawing a pension from the U.S. government for her service as a nurse during the Civil War. In 1862 she joined the Indiana 23rd Regiment and returned to New Albany with them after the War. The story of Lucy’s life and Vic and Pam’s search to uncover the details will be the subject of an upcoming addition to the Carnegie Center’s permanent exhibit Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad. Sponsored by the Carnegie Center, Inc. Find out more at www.carnegiecenter.org or (812) 944-7336.
