Yesterday marked the conclusion of the “great” mascot challenge, a tournament which consisted of a variety of high school mascots in the area going head to head, the victor was the Doss Dragon who came out of the public school bracket.
However, that wasn’t actually the end of the tournament, because the only thing bigger than high school football around here is college football. As such, it only seems right to give some of the area college mascots a chance to be declared champion.
In this mini-tournament a field of six mascots will go head to head, again I must stress this has nothing to do with the school or the school’s athletics, it is however, purely based on the mascots. So, let’s get started with round one.
The University of Louisville Cardinal vs. The Bellarmine Knight
Here we have a bird taking on a human, the Cardinal does have a specific advantage quickness and the gift of flight. Do you know how hard it is to see in a Knight suit, that Cardinal just flies in circles around the Knight like an annoying bee until he eventually falls down unfortunately when the Knight gets back up he grabs his sword. End o’ story.
Winner: The Bellarmine Knight
Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat vs. McKendree University Bearcat
These two are clearly evenly matched, to be honest I’m pretty sure they’re the same animal. However, we need to look at the root words: Wild vs. Bear. Flowers can be called wild but only a bear is a bear!
Winner: McKendree University Bearcat
(Triple Threat) Spalding Golden Eagle vs. Brown Mackie College Lion vs. Indiana University Southeast Grenadier
Three enter, one exits, this is like some 80’s sci-fi movie here. As the Eagle hovers above, the Lion leaps knocking it out of the event, thus leaving the Lion and the Grenadier. Now, the Grenadier is essentially an early American soldier. This means, the Grenadier comes at the lion with weaponry.
Winner: Indiana University Southeast Grenadier
On Monday these battles continue as the Bellarmine Knight, McKendree Bearcat, and Indiana University Southeast Grenadier go compete for victory.
