When Ron Cyrus was executive secretary and treasurer of the Kentucky AFL-CIO here in Louisville, during the mid-1980s, he probably never expected that his son, Billy Ray, would have the country’s number one hit single—“Achy Breaky Heart”—just ten years later.  And he certainly cold not have predicted that his granddaughter, Miley Ray Cyrus (who was just 14 when he passed away in February, 2006), would be catapulted to international stardom, after her Disney Channel show, Hannah Montana, premiered in March of 2006.

The last time Miley was in Louisville—for her sellout performance at Freedom Hall—she stopped by the Phoenix Hill Tavern and sang “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” with Jefferson TARC Bus, which shares a bassist, Dave Moody, with Billy Ray Cyrus’ band. She left immediately afterwards, however, since she was too young to be in the bar, other than to perform.
