Misses Strata

Sex, leadership, and politics went well together since ancient Greek times, and the themes come back in the form of Misses Strata.  The Bard's Town will present the play beginning on Thursday.

Misses Strata will take place on June 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, and 23 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  All performances are to happen at The Bard's Town, located at 1801 Bardstown Road in the Highlands section of Louisville.

Tickets for each show depend on the night.  June 14, 15, 16, 22, and 23 shows are $15 if paying by cash and $16 if using credit.  Shows on June 17, 20, and 21 are only $10 for cash audience members and $11 for credit.  Tickets can be purchased at The Bard's Town or by going to The Bard's Town website.

A long time ago, 2,423 years to be exact, Aristophanes created the legendary Greek play Lysistrata.  In that play, the title character convinces the rest of the women to keep sexual benefits from the men who ruled the war-hungry kingdom until peace was brought to the region.  The play exposed men's sexual desires and their lack of ability to be leaders.

Fast forward to Washington, DC in 2012 and, again, we find Lysistrata, now named Misses Strata.  Misses Strata uses a similar plan in an attempt to bring the men in charge to use reason and old-fashioned common sense.  However, some men, like Senators Boehner and Mitchie and President Willie, are not too pleased with this idea and attempt to stop Misses Strata.

Doug Schutte, creator of Chasing Ophelia and The Kings of Christmas, created Misses Strata, which Scot Atkinson directed.  The cast includes Schutte, Amy Steiger, April Singer, Beth Burrell, Jennifer Levine, Cara McHugh, JP Lebangood, and Ryan Watson.

Following Misses Strata, The Bard's Town will continue its season with A Bright New Boise.  The Samuel D. Hunter production will open in July.  More information on the shows can be found at The Bard's Town website.
