The Mothership Tour Lands at Waterfront Park on Memorial Day

Memorial Day is typically a day for reflection and and you should still do that, but you can also witness the landing of a mothership as the Mothership Tour featuring Skrillex, Dillon Francis, What So Not  and Milo & Otis takes over Waterfront Park’s Festival Plaza at 129 East River Road. Gates open at 5:30 and the mothershipping begins at 6:30.

Skrillex, born Sonny Moore, is touring the country bringing his EDM with him. In dance circles, Skrillex is huge. In the last two years, he’s won 6 Grammy Awards, an MTV Music Award and an Annie Award.

His second EP release “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” made him rich, going gold in the US. The single, also named “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” earned him double platinum status. “Bangarang,” his fourth EP, got him to the top of the charts all over the world while the “Bangarang” single became a platinum selling song.

He has also remixed a wide range of artists from All American Rejects to Rob Zombie to Lady Gaga. He’ll bring those chops as the main event of the Mothership Tour.

Dillon Francis, one of the pioneers of moombahcore music, will share the stage. If you don’t think you’ve heard of moombahcore, listen to Skrillex’s “Bangarang” again. It’s got the 110 beats per minute heart of the genre. Francis has produced EPs since 2010, but he’s stepping it up. His first studio album, “Money Sucks, Friends Rule,” comes out in July.

What So Not is the duo of Flume and Emoh Instead. They were introduced last year with the single “Jaguar.” Milo & Otis, either accidentally or ironically, are named after characters in a Japanese movie. Mio is an orange cat and Otis is a pug.

Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 on Memorial Day. Blankets are allowed, but lawn chairs aren’t. Check the list of what you can and cannot bring here.
