St. Matthews canines now have a new place to kick it
My B.F. Grand Opening Poem:
Now there’s a perk to being away at work-
Finally someone to tend to your furry friend
A place where your best bud can have some fun
And be part of his very own pack-
Something an empty house does indeed lack
So feel guilty no more about leaving “Fido” alone-
For now he has a home away from home
Somewhere to play and relax, in good company he’ll kick back-
While you’re busy at work, or school or even out partying, feeling cool
So go ahead and give it a try-
Leaving your buddy with us makes it easier to say the daily goodbye!

My Best Friend Doggie Daycare LLC granted Conditional Use Permit
My Best Friend to open February 08, 2010 at 112 Browns Lane
St. Matthews, KY - After four months of review by zoning, public works, eleven other municipal agencies, the city of St. Matthews and a public hearing, a permit has been granted to open My Best Friend Doggie Daycare at 112 Browns Lane. The two-story bungalow had been vacant since March 2009 and prior to that a hair salon occupied the spot for six years.
My Best Friend plans on housing 20-30 dogs daily at the site, offering a seemingly in-demand service.
“In conducting research on four markets comparable to that of Louisville in size and demographic I found that five was the average number of doggie daycares in those cities,” Jessica Pita, owner of My Best Friend said. My Best Friend will be Louisville’s fifth doggie daycare.
In asked why choosing St. Matthews, Pita says she feels the community will benefit from the service her doggie daycare will provide.
“There are numerous up scale apartment homes less than five minutes from My Best Friend. Many of the tenants are dog owners, and will find relief in having an alternative to leaving their four-legged-friends in an apartment 9 hrs. a day,” Pita stated.
The variety of businesses nearby including: Jewish, Suburban and Norton hospitals, Whole Foods, Oxmoor and St. Matthews malls also attracted Pita to the area.
“This will be a convenient drop-off point for a lot of people on their way to work,” Pita stated.
Two part time employees will be hired to help run the pack, and hours of operation will be Mon- Fri. 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. My Best Friend will also offer limited (cage-free) boarding, grooming and massage therapy.
Pita’s experience with dogs comes primarily from her tenure with Metro Animal Services, one year as an employee and three years as a dedicated volunteer and foster parent.
“Jessica Pita has been a loyal, dedicated M.A.S. volunteer for the past several years. She is extremely knowledgeable about animal handling and we have the utmost confidence in her abilities and dedication to our animals. She is a tremendous asset to our volunteer force and we are lucky she has chosen us to give of her time and talents,” stated Karen Dickson, volunteer coordinator for Metro Animal Services.
Whether you’re a dog lover or not, it’s undeniable that My Best Friend Doggie Daycare will add to the diverse and unique array of local businesses that define the St. Matthews community, making it a desirable and fun place to live.
