My Morning Jacket to play new arena October 29 [Music]

Print

There’s nothing like a favorite jacket when fall arrives.

Come this fall, My Morning Jacket will play the new KFC Yum! Center. “It’s good news for the city of Louisville,” said Ear X-tacy owner John Timmons. “I’m proud of this act—they’re great people and great musicians and great ambassadors to the city of Louisville who give back anything they can.”

As customary, the band will donate a dollar from each $45 ticket to a local organization—in this case, the Louisville Youth Orchestra, which will be performing with them. “The board, staff and students are absolutely ecstatic to be able to collaborate onstage with a band of this caliber,” says Melody Welsh-Buchholz (pictured), executive director of the Louisville Youth Orchestra. “Up to 50 new members who would unable to [join] due to economic circumstances will be able to be a part of this organization.” The donation will more than double the Orchestra’s Continuing Education Scholarship, which raises funds for at-risk youth.

“We’re really excited to be a part of this and showcase the Louisville Youth Orchestra,” says My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. “We hear all the time about how the arts are being cut and shortchanged, and we [in the band] were fortunate at a young age to discover music. We want to show people who may not know our local musicians, businesses and activists.” (The band will continue their “Local Louisville Village” at the arena.) This is what we’re happy to be a part of. We’re blessed to be a part of the city and a part of this.”

Says Billy Hardison of promoter Production Simple: “The localism of this band is unmatched.”

And a new album? “We’re working on it,” says James.

Ticket for the show, which is slated for Friday, October 29, go on sale Saturday, August 14. A limited number of general admission tickets will be available on a cash-only basis at Ear X-tacy two days beforehand while supplies last. (By then, the store will be at its new location, 2226 Bardstown Rd., just south of the Douglass Loop.) Local prog rockers Wax Fame will open the show.
