For Circuital, due out May 29, the band spent a month recording in an un-air-conditioned church gymnasium in Louisville. The result is yet another bold departure: one part shamanistic frenzy, one part coming-of-age saga documenting James’s recent decision to settle down with his girlfriend and her daughter. “We’re still just making the only record we can make at a given point in time,” James says. “It’s still just us, trying to come up with something we love.”
