As if yoga isn’t posh enough, it just got a little cooler in Louisville. For a while now, but I’m behind the times with these swimming, Tai Kwon Do-ing, gymnastic-ing children, 21c Museum Hotel has been offering “Sunday Series: Cabaret Life Drawing & Yoga with Art.”
Every Sunday in the downstairs Gallaries for five measly dollars, you can, according to 21c’s description, “Stretch your horizons at 21c Museum’s weekly Sunday Series.” Bring your own mat and work through a variety of poses among some amazing art. A staff rotation of Certified Yoga Teachers: Skylar Smith, Teresa Phelps Martin, Marie Coma, and Susan Schroedery will lead you to relaxation and peace of mind each Sunday from 2:30-4:00. Be sure to arrive early to claim your spot as space is limited.
The Cabaret Life Drawing component follows the yoga session and from 4:30-6:30 prepare to be inspired with, according to the press release,
“. . . burlesque starlets, fetish models, magicians, hula hoop artists, and elaborately costumed showgirls whose performance and poses provide the basis for guests to sketch in a series of individual pencil and charcoal drawings.” Bring out your inner artist, fresh and revived after yoga, in this all-inspiring locale. Throughout the evening, the performers hold certain positions from 30 seconds to 30 minutes allowing participants to capture a quick sketch. Instructors will lead participants in examining weight shifts in the hips, shoulders, and head as well as shading to create dramatic effect.
The cost of the drawing workshop is $10 or $5 for students. For more information, visit www.21cmuseum.org/museum/events/events.aspx or call 217-6346.
Pretty cool, huh? It be even better if they provided a babysitter, a really chic, artsy one, but all in all, Louisville has a great opportunity on Sunday nights at 21c.
