Avalon has just brought pastry chef Debbie Richter on board. You might recognize Richter’s name as the original owner of Sweet Surrender or more recently for her work at Derby Cafe. She’ll continue to offer some of the dessert favorites at Avalon like brioche bread pudding with bourbon/caramel sauce but will also be adding new, seasonal items to the dessert menu. For example the current Fall treat is a Pumpkin Roulade which is a fancy way of saying a pumpkin roll filled with filled with sweetened cinnamon cheese and topped with caramel and homemade whipped cream. Pumpkin Roulade is also a fancy way of saying “what I want to eat right now.” Marsha Lynch, pastry chef extraordinaire at Cafe Lou Lou also has a couple new dessert offerings I think you’d like to know about. The first is available at both St. Matthews location and the new Douglass Loop location (which I think I’m going to call Lou Lou Loop by the way) and is called "The Devil's in the Details Devil Food Chocolate Cake." It's described on the menu as "rich chocolate cake covered in chocolate cream cheese buttercream." It is very, very good. Then at the St. Matthews Cafe Lou Lou location only there are two new desserts. The first is an updated tiramisu, now with raspberry. The second is Chocolate Delusion, which is a flourless chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache. Now go forth and have your sweet tooth satisfied.
