The choice between dreams and escape is not easy in Cry Old Kingdom, which Actors Theatre will present as part of the Humana Festival beginning Friday.

Cry Old Kingdom will be performed at various times and dates from Mar. 8-Apr. 7.  All performances are to happen inside the Bingham Theatre at Actors Theatre, located at 316 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Tickets range in price from $30 to $40, depending on the show and seat.  Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended as some shows have already sold out.  All tickets can be purchased at the Actors Theatre box office, the Actors Theatre website, or by calling the box office at 502-584-1205.  Keep in mind the show is recommended for those 16 years of age and up

In Cry Old Kingdom, Edwin, an artist, is forced to hide himself and his painting talents during a Haitian regime that crushed such freedoms.  After happening upon a young man building a boat to escape to America, Edwin asks to paint a pose of him.  Edwin feels alive for the first time in a long time.

Meanwhile, revolution cries are heard throughout Haiti.  The regime's death squads are also out and about.  Edwin hears and sees both sides, and he may be forced to choose between a dream and survival.

Jeff Augustin created Cry Old Kingdom, which is his professional playwriting debut.  Tom Dugdale directed the production for Actors Theatre and the Humana Festival.

More information on the Humana Festival can be found at the festival's page at Actors Theatre's website.
