I wake up each morning as “Sneezy.” Itchy, watering eyes - Reaching for the Kleenex - A sore, off feeling growing in my throat. Must be springtime in the Ohio Valley! If you can stock up on your allergy meds (and still function enough to stay awake) and stuff your pockets full of tissues, you might want to venture outdoors this weekend. It’s chockfull of rollicking, good old fashioned, almost entirely free, FUN.
Starting tonight, Friday, May 17, check out the Louisville Loves Mountains Festival from 4pm-10pm. It’s completely free and open to the public. Note: Friday tweets have mentioned that this event has been moved indoors to The Green Building at 732 E. Market due to weather.
Tomorrow, Saturday, May 18, is the St. Matthews Street Festival from 11am-10pm. My family and I attended this festival last year and really enjoyed it. I found the parking and free shuttle service to be quite helpful.
A bluegrass music-infused festival is set to coincide with Forest Fest this Saturday, May 18 at Jefferson Memorial Forest. It’s from 11am-7pm. Cost=free; parking=$10.00.
This weekend is also the 2nd annual Old Louisville Springfest which also has a Kosair KidZone for the kids. The hours are Friday 5pm-10pm and Saturday 12pm-10pm.
On Sunday, May 19, don’t forget about the Louisville Children’s Museum fundraiser at KingFish on River Road. It’s from 4pm-7pm and all proceeds go to benefit the creation of a children’s museum.
The YMCA Healthy Kids Day is also this Sunday, May 19 at Louisville Slugger Field. It’s a free family event from 1pm-5pm with lots of valuable information and great freebies.
There are some church festivals happening around town this weekend.
My family and I have merely begun to scratch off some of these month-by-month Louisville bucket list items…it’s my goal to get them all accomplished by the end of summer and then pick back up with the fall suggestions.
