Louisville Magazine’s latest launch party brought a packed house to Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse at 325 W. Main St. Wednesday evening. Upon entering – and some pushing and shoving through the crowd – attendees could pick up a free copy of the magazine’s food and dining issue, enjoy free appetizers and $7 Pear Naked Martinis – the specialty of Jeff Ruby’s – and meet new and familiar faces as live music emanated from the piano bar at the front of the house. Valet parking was also available at $5, allowing more time for imbibing and mingling without the headache of finding a space at happy hour. Guests could also enter their names for a one-year subscription to the magazine, as well as a package from 502 Restaurant Week; the latter also made an appearance at the launch party.
Inside this month’s issue, readers will find a ballot for the 2013 Best of Louisville Awards, sponsored by Hilliard Lyons. Three main categories – Food/Drink, Media and Shopping/Services – divided into various subcategories such as Tap Beer Selection, Bank Lobby and Local Website are all up for grabs in the 28th running. Voters who nominate 10 or more of their favorites for consideration will have a shot at a Best of Louisville prize package, consisting of dining certificates worth $200. Nominations close March 31, 2013, and winners published in the July 2013 issue.
Further into the magazine, readers will learn about Kentucky’s returning wine industry, see a taste-test between seven of the commonwealth’s best wines, and discover 15 recommendations for spending $10 on bar food. The third part of Louisville Magazine’s series on Whiskey Row’s rebirth also awaits the readership, as well as a preview on the rebirth of the Big Four Bridge as a pedestrian crossing over the Ohio River, which will be the longest pedestrian bridge in the U.S. once the Indiana portion is finished later this spring.
The next Louisville Magazine launch party will be at Gary’s on Spring at 204 S. Spring St from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 6, 2013.
