Sunday may be Mother’s Day, but Saturday is all about our furry friends.

The New Albany-Floyd County Library (180 West Spring Street) will host its seventh annual Pet Fair in its west parking lot this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., bringing together pet-related vendors, family-friendly activities and plenty of cute and cuddly animals. Activities include a pet costume parade (3 p.m.), craft tables for the kids and a charity bake sale held by Teen Seen Initiative in order to raise money for the library at Henryville High School. The public high school’s library was, like much of the town, damaged by a deadly tornado in early March.

Nearly a dozen local rescue organizations will be on hand and looking for “forever homes” for fostered and sheltered dogs. They include rat terrier rescue Ratbone, Animal Adoption Network, Piece of my Heart Rescue and the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter. Some organizations will permit on-site adoptions, while others may require home visits and paperwork before adoption.

The event is free to attend, though donations are encouraged – and much needed by the non-profits in attendance.
