Plans for Kroger gas station still in the balance; public hearing Thursday [Highlands]

Despite earlier reports that the plan has been abandoned, Kroger is moving forward in its initiative to construct a five-pump gas station at the Hollywood Video site south of its store at 2410 Bardstown Road.

According to WHAS11, the area is zoned R-5 (residential), but Kroger has requested a waiver from Metro Louisville’s planning commission to allow building of the station. The Belknap Neighborhood Association has collected 700 signatures from nearby residents opposing the plan.

Residents cite traffic, noise, groundwater pollution from leaking fuel and threatened property values among their concerns.

A public hearing will be held tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 6:00 at 514 W. Liberty St.

In other news, in neighboring Deer Park, petitioning neighbors successfully have pressured CVS into abandoning a plan to build a store at the Douglass Loop.
