The days are growing darker. As our star slips farther away from us and our nights sink deeper into velvet, it’s difficult to resist that primordial urge to hibernate on the couch with a hot beverage and a comfort film (homemade caramel apple cider and Charlie Chaplin are a winning combination). The cozy confines of our snuggie and Netflix infused nights can be difficult leave behind when a face full of heavy darkness and a gulp of sharp air awaits us beyond the doorstep (especially for snug, nest-loving homebodies like me; don’t rock my boat or re-arrange my pillows). My friends, the time has come to grab your trusty earmuffs, brave the night and illuminate your next evening out with some warm and brilliant poetry at The Bard’s Town.
The InKY Reading Series strikes again tomorrow evening at our favorite artist’s pub with singers, writers and firm open-mic fiends. Kicking off at 7pm with some open-mic flow, live music from Busted Soles will follow at 7:30; poets Cutter Wood and Cynthia Arrieu-King will take the stage and provide light for your liking at 8pm.
Louisville native Cynthia Arrieu-King is the author of the poetry collection, People are Tiny in Paintings of China. Currently an assistant professor of creative writing at Stockton College, Arrieu-King’s poems have been published in Boston Review, Black Warrior Review, Witness and Catch-Up Louisville. Sharing the limelight is Cutter Wood, a native of Pennsylvania and current Visiting Scholar in Creative Non-fiction at the University of Louisville. Wood is a recipient of working scholarships to the Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference; his work has appeared in publications such as The L and Harper’s Magazine.
A habitual creature of darkness and cold-weather fancy (summer makes me cranky), I give InKY’s poetic fire my seal of approval. Visit The Bard’s Town tomorrow for some stimulating lyrical enlightenment; grab a pint (or maybe a hot toddy to stave the chill) and leave your Netflix account on standby.
The Bard’s Town is located at 1801 Bardstown Road
