PREVIEW: The Script & Hot Chelle Rae at the Palace this Tuesday [Music]

Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny boy!  I talked with Danny O’Donoghue, the Script’s front man in advance of their show this Tuesday Night at the Louisville Palace.  Just say it again with me...Danny O’Donoghue.  You don’t get more Irish.  At times, I wondered if I should call the Ancient Order of Hibernians in the Highlands to translate for me.

Danny was in a talkative mood, most band interviews last just a few minutes, and this one lasted twenty.  Topics ranged from the rocket ship ride he, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power have been on since getting together in 2005, to dealing with the loss of loved ones.  We discussed opening for Paul McCartney in 2009 at Citi Field in New York (“it was unreal”) to selling 60,000 tickets in Ireland in 4 hours (“just a few blokes stopping by for a show”).  The same passion evident in their music was on display in the rambling conversation about life, love and optimism.

You know their hits about heartbreak (Break Even), the struggling economy’s impact on relationships (For the First)   and even about drunk dialing (Nothing).  But Danny and I talked mostly about the latest CD and their first big hit (We Cry).  “(We Cry) was rooted in Mark losing his mom, and then I lost my dad four months later.”  I asked if they were hesitant to write such a bleak song.   Danny explained “in everyone’s life, there are times that not everything ends with roses, we were just sharing ours.”

But, there is hope in the band’s songbook.  The superb title track Science and Faith offers something bigger than us.  The song came from a conversation that Mark and his wife had one night while he was trying to explain away the night sky stars and she said “but what about faith, what about hope, you won’t find that in a telescope.”  A simple statement that has become a mantra of sorts for the band, in the mist of all of sad, bad and brokenness…there is always a reason to hope.

The Script will be appearing with Hot Chelle Rae (Tonight, Tonight, Tonight) at the Louisville Palace, this Tuesday Night, 9/13/11 at 7:30. Available tickets range from $25 at $45, plus fees, at louisvillepalace.com.  Also, 102.3 The MAX and Southern Comfort are hosting a VIP Happy Hour with Danny, Mark and Glen before the show.  You register to win here: themaxfm.com
