The Bard's Town

Kentucky playwrights' works take The Bard's Town stage alongside returning favorites for the 2012 season.

The Bard's Town is continuing its 2012 theatre season with performances of Misses Strata (June), A Bright New Boise (July-August), The Ten-Tucky Festival of Ten Minute Plays (September), 44 Plays for 44 Presidents (November), and The Kings of Christmas (December).  All performances will take place at The Bard's Town, located at 1801 Bardstown Road in the Highlands area of Louisville.

Tickets for the upcoming shows, when they become available, can be purchased at The Bard's Town or on The Bard's Town website.

Misses Strata will continue The Bard's Town's 2012 season beginning on Thursday.  The production is essentially Lysistrata for modern times.  The title character is in Washington, DC, 2012, to get Congress to return to common sense and wisdom.  To do that, she will withhold something that the men in Congress feel they need.

Doug Schutte created Misses Strata, which will run from June 14-23.  More information on tickets can be found in this article.

Also taking place this summer at The Bard's Town is A Bright New Boise.  The production looks at a father/son relationship as another person, in a big-box retailer parking lot, tries to summon The Rapture.  That show will run July 26-August 11.

Opening the fall season will be the return of The Ten-Tucky Festival of Ten-Minute Plays.  The popular event features ten-minute plays created and performed by Kentucky playwrights and actors.  The plays will run from September 20-30.

Appropriate for election time comes the production 44 Plays for 44 Presidents.  The production goes in order from Washington to Obama celebrating the successes and mistakes of each administration, moving between comedy and tragedy with each presidency.  The 44 Plays for 44 Presidents will run from November 1-11.

Finally, as Christmas approaches, The Bard's Town will bring back its own Christmas story, The Kings of Christmas.  Carter has had enough with his slightly abnormal family (which at one time included an Elvis impersonator that may or may not still be alive).  Can Carter get his Christmas spirit back?  The production runs from December 13-23.

More information on the shows can be found at The Bard's Town website.
